The "Stars and Bars" Flag

I'm so tired of hearing about the "rebel" flag on various avenues of social media. Let's all be honest here. To some it represents the heritage and the history of the South. To others it represents a period of ignorance in our country's history. I agree with the popular opinion of lowering this flag from all public facilities/buildings. It doesn't represent us as a country or any state for that matter. To me, it represents a time when the south wanted to "stir the pot" and secede from the Union because a few of the states thought they were being treated unfairly. I'd hate to say it, but some of it was based on slavery. The North wouldn't let them go because they would obviously not be able to make it economically, so essentially, the North needed slavery as much as the South did.

And then there is the other side of the spectrum. Hardcore leftists want to see it pulled from retail shelves, television, movie/sitcom props and any other places where this flag could be seen. Why? If someone wants to fly this decoration in their front yard, big deal. They have to live with the judgement, not you. I had never looked at this flag as a symbol of racism until it blew up in the mainstream media. I think it was because I just didn't care. It represented "redneck culture" more so than ignorance or hate. Some would say they're one in the same, but I would have to disagree. Just let people do what they want. We don't want to forget about history and we don't want to turn into a society of wusses who offended by everything at every turn. Stop blowing everything out of proportion.
